Hi all!
Looking into planning a day at Branched Oak Lake outside of Lincoln....it's a huge lake with some swimming beaches, trails, tent camping, and picnic areas. I was thinking it might be fun to rent a pontoon boat and spend a couple of hours boating, swimming, and just hanging off the back of the boat. The cost for the boat would be split by the number of participants at $225/day or $60/hour on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. On other days it rents for $150/day or $40/hour. There is a minimum of two hours on all hourly rentals and gas and oil are extra. I'll need to look into how many can fit on the boat, but figure the cost would be $15-$20 plus the cost of the gas/oil. I figure we would do either 3 or 5 hours... A few questions: 1) Is this something that would interest you? 2) Do you know how/would you be willing to drive the boat? 3) In order of your availability, please rate the following dates. I don't need to know what days DON'T work - just the order of dates that work best for you. Saturday July 30th 10 AM Sunday July 31st 1 PM Saturday August 20th 10 AM Saturday August 20th 1 PM Sunday August 21st 1 PM Please respond here on the message board so I can track the conversation. Thanks! Deb Hoffnung, co-organizer |

This sounds like super fun!!!!
I am pretty sure I could make it out there Sunday August 21st. I am very good at driving boats, and I have a fancy tube if there are capabilities of pulling a tube behind the boat. (seats 1). I would also bring my windsurf board and see if there is enough wind. Anyone else? |

Sounds fun!
Most anyone can quickly learn to run the boat, in case an experienced boater does not come. Sat at 10 am on 7/30 or 8/20 works fire. |

Sounds possible. I haven't looked at a calendar yet so not sure on the dates which work for me. I do have boating experience but like was said it isn't critical for operation of a boat.

The August dates work better for me. A bit late notice for the July dates.
Agree with Ronda. A pontoon boat is like driving a living room around at 10 mph. Pretty easy stuff. |

Yes to August dates...
No to July... I can follow directions, Deb, but refused to... |

It all works for me, though I don't drive boats. And yes, it probably is easy enough to drive a boat in open water, but this is a very busy lake with jet skis and water skiers. Some rental places actually get the boat down in the water for you; others would require us to tow it and unload/load it, so that's another task we may need to consider. Some pontoons are capable of pulling tubes, which again, tends to go more smoothly with an experienced driver. I would prefer to have a driver who is sober and safe.

I called the Branched Oak Marina and the 1 and only pontoon boat they have blew a motor and they don't know if it will be fixed any time soon. Said to check back next week for the status.
I don't know if any other place at B.O. rents pontoons. I doubt it. Pawnees doesn't. There are other lakes but they are further. Lake Mc=330miles from Omaha, Harlan=230, Milford Ks 140 from Lincoln, Lewis&Clark 180 from Lincoln. I look at these and Milford may be best option because it is clearer water. Lewis may be murky with all the flooding (I know they have a barge at L&C dam with a crane to scoop out debris a few weeks ago to prevent the flood gates from plugging up). |

Did this meetup get pushed on the backburner?
Maybe next year? Or is it still possible? |

Kinda back-burnered it because I hadn't heard back from the boat rental people and I've been looking for a j-o-b....but it's still a possibility...thanks for the reminder! May just do a beach/bring your own picnic day if I can't coordinate the boating...
