There's a place out by Lincoln that sells Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP), but he doesn't rent them out.
http://nebraskasurfco... Before he has had a training day, but I am not sure how often he does that. I don't know anyone that rents them. I don't think anyone does in Nebaska.... unfortunately. I bought my windsurfing gear on craigslist for $200 and I use it as a SUP board as well. It's an old board, but everything was never used, so it was all in mint condition. You can post an ad on craigslist or look on searchtempest.com (helps you look through craigslist) to find cheap gear.... but you have to be careful of what you buy. If you don't know what you're looking at... you may end up buying useless junk that is missing parts or broken or the parts are mismatched. It's best if the person knows how to rig the stuff (put it together) for you. Windsurfing is not the best sport to just head out on the water and "try." You can get yourself hurt if you don't know anything about it. I studied it for MONTHS (over fall through spring) before I got on the water and had Matt show me the basics.... but... since I studied it so much, I caught on extremely quickly... which is rare. Yesterday I went out by myself in the higher winds and just about got in some big trouble. I kept falling and kept getting pushed down wind. I eventually got back (had to swim about 50 yard while dragging the heavy board) and I was dehydrated and laid on the beach for 10 minutes to catch my breath. Stand up paddle in a low wind condition is for anyone though. You can buy an old board (wider is better... less tippy) and you can make a paddle for about $50 instead of buying one for $100. |

There's a place out by Lincoln that sells Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP), but he doesn't rent them out. @Max Thanks for the information. I'm not planning on buying any equipment but was hoping there was a place in town that rents them out so we can get that guy you mentioned to teach some of our members how to windsurf. It's somewhat frustrating to people I would think to take a class that taught you how to windsurf just to find out no one rents them and it's a pretty good chunk of change to invest into if you've only gone once. I think this information will help out other members, thanks again Max! If you do hear of a place that rents them will you please let me know or post it up here? Thanks! Brandon |

The guy in Lincoln is the one we did our Paddle Board events with last year. He seems to be going through some sort of transition and has not returned my emails/calls.
As far as I know, the only people in town with paddle boards are the folks we are doing the Paddle Board and Kayak event with on August 13th at Lake Cunningham- the Omaha Kayak Polo people. They only have 4 boards so we are rotating on the 1/2 hour between boards and kayaks so everyone gets a chance...and since paddle boarding will kick your butt - 1/2 an hour is a perfect chunk of time. Paddle boards are SUPER expensive...as much as kayaks...but also a ton of fun. It looks like it will be hard to balance, but they're pretty klutz proof - just VERY hard work on the arms, legs, and core - but in a good way! :) |
