Backpacking at Indian Cave State Park
When: June 18th 5:30pm - June 20th
Cost: Park entrance fee is $4
This is a great place to go backpacking, lots of scenery and an invigorating hike.
Straddling the border of Nemaha and Richardson counties on the Missouri River, Indian Cave State Park is located 10 miles south of the junction of U.S. Highway 136 and Nebraska Highway 67 west of Brownville, then five miles east on Nebraska Spur 64E.
Twenty miles of hiking trails from a half-mile to seven miles long meander through the hardwood forest. Most trails are strenuous. Primitive tent camping is permitted along hiking trails throughout the park. There are nine Adirondack shelters with fire rings.
The plan is as follows:
Indian Cave State Park Trail Map & Our Route
Friday: Everyone meet up at Cherry Bean Coffee in Cherry Hills Village at 5:30PM, get on the road by about 6:00. It takes 2 hours to get there. We will grab dinner to go on our way out of Omaha. Once we get to the park we will find a road side campsite and set up camp for the first night.

Saturday: Wake up, eat breakfast, pack our things, start the hike. There are several places to stop along the way but we will hike for about 6-7 miles to our back country campsite. We'll then set up camp and chill in nature, telling stories. The back country sites are first come first served so we'll have to play that by ear.
Sunday: Wake up, eat breakfast, pack our things, head out to the Indian Cave site, then hike for 5 or 6 miles checking out all the scenic overlooks and sites Indian Cave State Park has to offer. We'll probably head out back to Omaha sometime in the afternoon.

There will be a pre-trip meeting a week or two before to show gear and talk about the location and what to expect and how to be prepaired for the trip. This is for those interested in learning about backpacking or simply interesting in learning about the trip. I'll post the pre-trip meeting soon.
I recomend anyone who RSVP's yes or is thinking about it to attend the meeting.
If you do not own a sleeping bag, backpack, tent, stuff sacks, sleeping pad, pack rain cover, backpacking stove, or cook set please contact me directly because UNO's Outdoor Venture Center rents these items for pretty cheap and depending on how many people need these particular items we might be able to get a discount. So if you are interested in going on this trip but don't have the right equipment don't worry because most of it you can rent instead of spending tons of money for this one trip.

Hope to see you there

Wonderful experience for my first time. The group was great. I learned so much this weekend. I would definately do it again with you all!
Sorry I wasn't able to make it to the meeting but I hope all went well. I'm really psyched to head out there with you all as it will be nice to meet new people and great to get out as I haven't been able to camp since some time in February.
Any update on the pre-trip meeting?
Alan,
I'll be at the meeting, thanks for hosting!
Katie
