When:

Every Thursday Night at 6PM starting April 22, 2010

Where:

Lewis Central Middle School3820 Harry Langdon BoulevardCouncil Bluffs, IA

note: we will meet here by the brown building far back by the track and then ride to the trailhead.

Cost:

$1.00 at the trailhead, tacos & alcohol available for purchase at Mineloa Steakhouse (under new management)

Event Description:

This is a 10-mile each way ride. We will keep a fair pace with few stops. There is a chance to rest at Margaerittaville (about 3/4 way) If you have to stop and rest before then please do as we don't want any injuries. You can rejoin the group or just meet us at the Steakhouse. Remember to have a headlight for our ride back and make sure to dress appropriatly as it will be cooler at night. Once we are at the Mineloa Steakhouse when the Event Host decides to leave you may either head back with them or continue with the festivities and ride back later.

This ride usually has a couple hundred to a thousand cyclists. From beginners to experts this ride is perfect and full of energy. I encourage anyone that is a cyclist or is interested in just hitting the trail to RSVP for this event.

Most of you already know what this is but if you don't here is some information:

"The name "Taco Ride" has become synonymous on Thursday nights with the Wabash Trace Nature Trail and the 10-mile stretch between the trail head in Council Bluff, Iowa and Mineola, Iowa. For many, the Thursday night ride is a scenic trek through the Loess Hills ending with dinner at the Mineola Steakhouse. For others, the Taco Ride is a social event filled with cycling, scenery and a festive, party atmosphere. Everyone agrees that Thursday on the Wabash is something special.

As the trail became popular, cyclists discovered the Thursday night taco special offered at the bar in Silver City. However, the ride destination shifted to the closer town of Mineola when the bar in Silver City closed. The Mineola Steakhouse soon began offering their own tacos and beer special. Before long, the nickname "Taco Ride" was coined and the name stuck to describe what has become a weekly event for many. From the time the trail is dry enough in the spring until late in the fall, this Thursday night bike riding ritual takes place."
